Crystal Maze book 2Based on The Crystal Maze Channel 4 television series of the 90's from Chatsworth Television this is one of four books published by Mammoth books.

For those of you not familiar with The Crystal Maze the show was set in four adventure zones where plucky contestants took part in games of mystery, skill, strength or mental agility in order to win time crystals. Each crystal gained them five seconds on time in the final fifth zone, the Crystal Dome, where they had to collect gold tokens in a dome with the tokens being blown around by industrial fans.

The host for the first few seasons and Christmas kids specials was none other than Richard O'Brien himself, making the contestants seem slow as he dashed around the maze delighting in locking in contestants that ran out of time in a game.

The prizes weren't quite up to the level of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, top prize was an activity weekend for the winners. The show was however a smash hit for the (then) new terrestrial service Channel 4 and continues to be shown nowadays on cable/satellite channel Challenge. Check out our TV Listings for times.

PagesThe book was based on the television series and was written by Peter Arnold. It follows the adventures of three kids, Sue, Baz and Jane as they travel around solving clues to catch "Marvo the cunning crystal thief". Aided by Richard, they have forty or so pages of puzzles to solve to progress through the book.

Illustrated by Mick Reid this book was originally published in 1993. It proved so popular that is was reprinted twice more in 1993 and once again in 1994. There should be plenty of copies floating round ebay for collectors to track down.
