Updated Saturday, March 27th, 2010: The day has been confirmed as an official world record!

Opinion differs as to the world record for the most people dancing the Time Warp in costume. Many attempts fail because those taking part are not registered, or not wearing costume, or not dancing for the full amount of time. Well at noon on Halloween 2009, on Brighton seafront, 1,635 of us fullfilled the criteria (well subject of course to the Guiness people ratifying the result, but as Richard says he knows where they live). It was a great turn-out for the event as the weather was not as good as it could have been, having said that the small amounts of rain we got amounted to just a litle drizzle and the temperatures were very mild for the end of October on the sea front.

Wrist Band - Time Warp World Record 2009Everyone who registered for the event wore a wrist band to prove they had a right to be there and to help with the counting and everyone was rehearsed by Rocky Horror Show choreographer herself - Jenny Arnold, to make sure they were doing the same steps. In fact it took four or five rehearsals just to get through the people attending. Introducing the day and doing a fine job of keeping the crowd entertained was radio presenter Hannah Peckham.

Rocky RockRichard O'Brien plus the cast of The Rocky Horror Show were on stage to lead everyone through the five minute dance itself and we did it twice just to make sure. Watch out for the confirmation of the record soon!

Rock onEveryone wore a costume related to Rocky and there were t-shirts available to buy for the record attempt as well. A really nice touch was everyone that registered was given a stick of Rocky Horror Show Rock with the legend "Time Warp 2009" all the way through.

Kara with certificateNearly everyone it seemed took photos of the event and there were several television and radio crews there as well. If you have some images of the event and you'd like to send them to us for publication on the site please email them to timewarprecord09ATtimewarp.org.uk, the more the merrier!

Original Information sent by Rocky Horror Company to promote the event

This Halloween be part of Rocky Horror history!

Are you ready for the biggest Halloween bash of them all? We need as many pelvic-thrusting, fun-lovin’ people as possible to come and help us break the world record for The Time Warp dance! We’re aiming to get 1,500 people along to Brighton to break the world record (currently held by Melbourne) and put The Rocky Horror Show in The Guinness Book of Records!

To get in the party spirit we are requesting that everyone wear something Rocky related, whether it’s a t-shirt, feather boa, or stilettos! If you don’t have anything don’t worry we’ll have some available to purchase on the day.

The Time Warp record attempt will be filmed by The Paul O'Grady Show!

Saturday 31st October

Registration from 10am, short Time Warp rehearsals start from 11am record attempt 12 noon

Brighton seafront, the old paddling pool, on the East Side of the West Pier

To make it a valid record, you'll need to be recognizable as part of the Rocky group, so the more colourful a costume the better. Please try to at least be in a Rocky Horror tee-shirt and a boa and if you've got the high heels on all the better. Best to pre-register with RHCo on the link above.

TimeWarp InstructionsTime Warp InstructionsRocky Horror Co have also put a nice little guide of how to do the Time Warp up on their site click here for the link

You can also download an A4 pdf of the original Time Warp instructions click here Go Go

Now although it's been stated that the record was held by Melbourne at 1,500 - We think it was actually more like 192 in Stoke as the Melbourne one might not have met all the conditions needed.
