It's the news we've all been waiting for. Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Tribute Show was released on DVD both in the USA on 14th October, 2008 and November 10th here in the UK. Cover shown left is the from the UK release. WIN A COPY! We also had a copy of the Tribute Show DVD for each of our lucky winners in our December 2008 online competiton. We received a UK preview disc as well as our ordered USA copies. Having watched the discs a couple of times, I can say that the content is the same. The only changes are for the names of the production companies involved with each of the releases here and across the pond. The main menu offers just two options on each version. Play the movie and go to scene selections, index by the songs and giving 18 chapter points in all. Each individual page of index points has four songs and small non-animated thumbnail of the scene. Another nice touch is that each of the performers for the show has a nice Rocky font styled title as shown left of the screenshot of Patricia Quinn. This does help with the performers that may be a little less well known to Rocky fans. The only ommision being a name check for Little Nell as she joined the entire cast on stage for a final rendition of the Time Warp, then again if you don't know who Nell is by now shame on you! A disc with Richard, Nell and Patricia singing the Time Warp at the birth place of the show is in itself a must for all Rocky Horror fans. The discs themselves are slightly different in look, with the UK one having both a Rocky Horror Company and Amnesty International logo as well as the 12 rating from the BBFC. The USA features the image used on the box cover instead. The show iteself is slightly cut, I remember Richard O'Brien making a much longer speech about the work of Amnesty International and the injustices that go on throughout the world. A pity that was removed from the disc. Also missing is the song I Can Make You A Man and it's reprise. The camera work is very good for the entire production and does included a few shots of both the band members and audience as well as the main shots of the performers. I recognised several of you in the audience. If you don't blink you can even see Stephanie, myself and Sue Blane at the right hand side of one shot. This is a wondefull disc for all fans of The Rocky Horror Show, for those of us that were there it brings back some great memories and Eddie's death is worth the cost of the disc alone, I'd forgotton that bit and nearly fell off my chair laughing! Buy two, one to watch and one for the collection. Below is some of the text from the rear cover of the UK DVD release, changed slightly from the original Press Release further down the page. Sales Sheet text - Friday, September 19th, 2008 The Rocky Horror Show, with music and lyrics by Richard O'Brien was born at the Royal Court's tiny Theatre Upstairs on June 16, 1973, and went on to become an international stage smash hit and a major film. Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Tribute Show is a concert featuring the music from The Rocky Horror Show, and was recorded at the Royal Court, London, in December 2006, to an audience of faithful Rocky Horror fans. Richard O'Brien rewrote the narration for the show, and a cast of performers was put together, some from the original show, and others who have appeared in productions during its 33-year history. Richard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell and Rayner Bourton, members of the original stage cast, and are back together for the first time. They are joined by one of the best Frank-N-Furters ever, Anthony Head, as well as original Transylvanians from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also featured are a host of famous names as singers and narrators, including Michael Ball, Adrian Edmondson, Sophie Lawrence,Toyah Wilcox, Stephen Gately, Tony Slattery, Robin Cousins, Christopher Biggins and Jamie Theakston. THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW is a magical phenomenon unlike anything ever seen before on stage or screen. Borrowing largely from cinema's horror conventions, the story begins as an innocent young couple, Brad and Janet, are stranded at the castle of a mad scientist who is building the perfect man. The castle is filled with a most bizarre group of characters who worship their master, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, in leather jacket, pearls, fishnet stockings, and heavy makeup. Brad and Janet are forced to examine their own sexuality as the voluptuous doctor releases the hidden desires in each of them. The show features unforgettable song-and-dance numbers such as 'Time Warp' and 'Sweet Transvestite', which have come to represent the sexual liberation of the 1970s.
