Richard trained at the London School of Musical Theatre.

His first professional engagement was playing the role of Mikado in The Hot Mikado at the Gatehouse, Islington. The show received rave reviews, and was Time Out Critics' Choice.

Prior to training at LSMT Richard's theatre credits include: An Evening with Peggy Spencer (King's Lynn, Corn Exchange); Eddie in Greek and Raymond in Nil by Mouth (both Russell Hall, King's Lynn) and Eternal Dance (King's Lynn, Corn Exchange).

Richard played the role of Prince Claude in Sleeping Beauty (Lichfield Garrick) and he also sang live on BBC Radio West Midlands at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. Richard joined the Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat company early last year playing the rote of Judah, and then the title role of Joseph.
