Russell GrantRussell Grant
as the
Narrator
Llandudno (Venue Cymru) 22nd Sept

Not many people realize that Russell trained at the Daphne Davy Drama School, in Ruislip, Middlesex - an outreach of LAMDA. His family background is in films, with his mother and father both working at Pinewood Studios as the stars' contract secretary and set designer respectively, and his Uncle John won an Oscar for The Deer Hunter. Russell has appeared in the West End in musicals ranging from The King and I to Hans Andersen and is devoted to Ivor Novello's works, having toured in the last major production of a Novello operetta, King's Rhapsody. Astrology, which he became known for, took over when British royalty consulted him: HRH Princess Margaret, Her Majesty The Queen Mother and Diana, Princess of Wales, whom he met when appearing in The Royal Variety Show at the Victoria Palace. Russell decided to go back to theatre a couple of years ago and in that time has appeared for Sir Alan Ayckbourn at his Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough. His performance received rave notices, playing both a woman and man in the production Soap. He created the role of Irwin for Paul Doust in Probably Wanstead, winner of the Evening Standard One-Act Plays section at the Brighton Festival. In recent times, Russell has directed workshops featuring South Pacific and Under Milk Wood. Russell has since landed the role of Madame Arcati in the 70th anniversary production of Blithe Spirit to be staged at Portmeirion in 201 1 (where Coward wrote the play) and is playing Dolly in Hello. Dolly!, following in the footsteps of Danny La Rue, who had a major hit in this popular musical in the late 1970s. Russell has just finished filming a new movie and has three more lined up in 'the next few months; he travels to Los Angeles in November to pilot his own American TV series. He is delighted to be back for one night only as Russell lives in Porthmadog and so Llandudno is his local theatre.
