Part V of VI

She jumped up and if looks could kill, he would have died right at this moment - if he were not already dead. "You're not in the mood? YOU'RE NOT IN THE MOOD??? What's wrong with you? I can't believe you're doing this to me!"

"Calm down, darling. I think I've overseen something, something obvious about her. I don't know what but it drives me crazy!" He stood up as well and tried to get to her but she managed to evade him. "I didn't have the intention to hurt you. But I don't want any part of our plan to go wrong. And you don't want that, either. How could I enjoy myself while she's planning anything to prevent us from doing what we've planned? I'm sure she already found a way of detecting us. And if this Watcher is with her, we have one more problem to solve."

"Richard, I got your point," she hissed, "but why do you punish me for that?" Her voice became softer and her looks even more. "Why do you push me aside?"

Oh, great Gods - he could not bear this tension any longer. Why did they quarrel so often during the last days of their underground existence? "I'm sorry." He reached out for her to come to him. "Come here, darlin'." He embraced her with such warmth and strength that she could have lost anything in this moment - she would not have cared as long as she had him. "Tomorrow, everything's gonna be over. We'll succeed, my dear. And nobody will stop us from doing it." Why had he shown even the slightest hint of weakness? He had never done so until now. Inhaling deeply, he decided that he would never do so again. Never. And tomorrow at that time, they would again be the Regents, walking proudly in the sunlight.

Suddenly she broke from him. "I've got a nice idea. Why don't we invite a few friends for tonight? I think that would make a nice orgy. We haven't had one since San Francisco. And I promise, they're to remember it for a very long time. We could invite Frank, I'd like to see him. What do you think?"

Richard started to grin. He eyed her from top to toe, once again realising how beautiful she was. "I think that's a great idea. We've always liked an audience, why break with this tradition?"

"Oh, we're gonna have a great time! I'll put on my new fishnet stockings..." The girl's eyes shone with expectation and happiness. Richard smiled inwardly. This view had been worth all quarrels.

Buffy sat on the floor in her room. In front of her, there was the content of her weapons box. Bottles with holy water, wooden stakes and crosses were scattered across the floor. Buffy was just getting her things together for tonight, and she was determined to finish this vampire story tonight. They were stepping on her nerves. And not even Giles would keep her from doing so, even if he showed up in his stockings and high-heels, wearing a wonderbra. Okay, probably she would stop for a moment and laugh but she would not let it go further. She only hoped that these vampires were usual ones - or she would have a greater problem than she thought. Then she would be dead, and vampires would be walking in the sunlight. Buffy shook her head in determination. No, that would not happen. Certainly not. However, she had three hours left until sunset. That was the time when she would decide the fate of the vampires - and it was not eternal life. In fact, her decision would not have anything to do with life for these vampires. What Buffy did not know was that she also was to remember this night for a very long time.

Some minutes later, Buffy grabbed the phone and rang Willow up. "Hi, Willow. Do you have the maps?"

Willow sounded definitely unwilling. "Yes. But I'll hand them to you only when you take me with you. No other way to get them."

No, not again, this discussion. Had she not made her point clear? How many times did she have to say a thing until someone believed it? "Fine, then I'll go without the maps. Willow, I don't know if you didn't hear me - but I can't take you with me. It's too dangerous for you."

"I'll be at your house in 15 minutes, did you get that? You won't go alone."

Buffy sighed loudly. "Okay! Okay! But if you bring Xander and Giles, I'm gonna kill you before the vampires, did you get that?"

Willow grinned triumphantly at her end of the line. "Of course. See ya!" And with these words, she hung up and left her parents' house in a definite hurry.

15 Minutes later, Willow knocked at Buffy's door, a wooden stake in her hand. She was wearing dark trousers and a dark shirt, combined with black shoes. "Buffy? Are you there?"

Buffy ran down the stairs to open the door. "Yes, of course. Come in, and try to seem normal - my mother's at home. She needn't know about our mission."

Shrugging her shoulders, Willow smiled. "That's okay by me."

"Willow, is that you?" Joyce Summers walked out of the kitchen in order to shake Willow's hand. "Now what are you gonna do tonight? Have some fun?"

Buffy glanced a curious look at her friend, saying, "Don't you say a word about vampires", and smiled. "We're gonna go to the Bronze tonight. You needn't wait for me, it'll probably be late when I come back."

"Alright, Buffy. Be careful, okay?" Joyce smiled at her daughter, unknowing how this would go on. Buffy and Willow left the house a few minutes later - but not without making a little trip to the garden because Buffy had hidden the bag with her equipment there. They did not need very much time for their way to the graveyard. But by the time they reached the big gate, Buffy suddenly stopped in midstep and looked around mistrustfully. There had been some kind of flash in her mind that she could not quite explain. Could she be so tired as to see ghosts? She could have sworn that red-haired girl had been there for a moment. She hesitated. "Willow? Have you seen anything?"

Willow glanced her a very curious look. "No, why? There's nothing out here, it seems as if we're in the middle of nowhere."

Buffy shook her head in doubt. "I don't know, I thought I had seen something. But it was probably nothing." She gave Willow a brief smile. "Come on, it's alright. We're late." Continuing her way to the morgue, she made quite energetic steps. When the girls had only a couple of steps left to the door, Buffy stopped again. This time she had really seen the red-haired girl. She knew that. But at the same time she knew exactly that nobody was on the cemetery except Willow and herself. Maybe... "Willow?"

Her friend also stopped, clearly astonished by Buffy's strange behaviour. "Yes?"

"Didn't Giles say these vampires were able to establish telepathic links on their victims and that this might have happened to me, too?" There had to be an explanation for all of this, she was quite sure.

Willow shrugged. "Yes, I think so. But why-"

Buffy cut her off with a gesture. "I think I receive Richard's thoughts. No, I'm not crazy, Willow. I couldn't explain why I can see the girl in a cave when there's no connection between him and me. Could you?"

Willow inhaled shortly. "Okay, you got me. Now what are we gonna do about it?"

"I think we can find them if I just follow Richard's thoughts." Buffy paused for a moment. "Are you sure you wanna come with me?"

"Of course, Buffy. I'm your friend, and I won't leave you alone tonight. Now do we wanna start or do we wanna stand around here for another hour until Giles and Xander realise where we've gone?" Willow started to walk on and opened the door of the morgue, turning around to Buffy and gesturing her to follow.

"No, I think it's better if get into these caves right now." The two girls crept into the morgue, turning around a last time to make sure that nobody had followed them. The graveyard was as silent and empty as before and not a single sound could be heard except Buffy's and Willow's breathing. Finally sure that they were alone, they walked into the labyrinth of corridors below the streets of Sunnydale. Buffy just followed Richard's thoughts and found the cave after a few minutes. They already heard the noise coming from it when they were still several corners away. Somebody really seemed to have a big party there. Buffy gestured Willow to be silent and crept along the walls to get nearer. Willow always following her in two steps of distance. When she reached the entrance of the cave, Buffy stepped out of the shadows and the moment the vampires noticed her, it became dead silent. "Are you having a party?"

The crowd made place for two individuals who were just too familiar for Buffy. Richard and the red-haired girl. The girl was dressed in black stockings that were again held by black suspenders. She had wrapped some kind of translucent black fabric around herself and put on some long, black gloves. She was standing on black high-heel boots. Richard wore black trousers, a white shirt and a black jacket. They walked towards Buffy and Willow in the same majestic way Buffy had first seen on the graveyard. Richard first took the word, freeing Buffy from her equipment and her hidden stakes, threatening Willow in order to keep Buffy from offering resistance. "You've arrived on a rather special night. It's one of our most important affairs."

Buffy's voice dripped of sarcasm. "Oh lucky you." She looked quite bored.

"You're lucky, he's lucky," the girl shouted and pointed over to Richard, "I'm lucky, we're all lucky!" And then she laughed wildly. But it was no pleasant laugh, more one of the mean kind which meant no good. When she finally found her composure again, she stretched her hand out to Buffy. "I don't think we've been introduced. I am Patricia, his sister."

"His... Sister." And now she finally realised what had been going on. Richard had tried to win her trust with that story about his dead sister. Well, he had not lied completely - vampires were not alive anymore. At least those she had seen up to now. "I see. And now?" She could not kill all these vampires on her own, even with Willow but without her Slayer equipment... She had to find a way to buy them some time. After all, these vamps would surely try to kill her for their ritual. "What do you think we should do?"

"Well," came a voice from the other end of the room. A tall man was standing over there, dressed in the same strange way like Patricia. A black corset, black suspenders and stockings. "I think we should have some fun. Why don't you put these on?" He held two pairs of stockings and suspenders - obviously he expected Buffy and Willow to put them on. "They'll make you feel less... vulnerable." The more Buffy looked at him, the more amazed she was. This man had a strange affinity to Giles in his costume as Frank N'Furter. One moment. This whole case slowly seemed to her like a copy of Rocky Horror. Patricia looked very much like Magenta, this guy was Frank - only Richard did not fit his counterpart Riff-Raff. But that was the only difference. For the moment, she had no choice but to play along with Richard and Patricia. "Willow, we'll play along for now and pull out the aces when the time is right," she whispered. Louder, she added, "Alright, let's have some fun. But only if we get some music!"

"Oh, you can bet on that, my dear," Patricia said with a grin that let Buffy suspect nothing good. And as if she had known it, the first bars of "Science Fiction Double Feature" came from somewhere on the other side of the cave. Patricia fell into the song and left Buffy and Willow standing at the entrance of the cave where they faced Richard. Buffy really tried to hide her fury towards him but there was no way. "So, Richard. This is how we meet again. Not quite what you had in mind, right?"

Richard obviously had no hint of regrets. "Well, I had imagined it to be more difficult to get you down here - but since you managed that on your own, it's much easier for us to perform the ritual."

"You mean you're planning to kill me. But I can tell you that I'm not gonna be quite the easy mark you imagine. If I had a quarter for every time someone wanted to kill me, I'd be a rich girl." She glanced him a smile. "You know that I'm the Slayer, don't you?" She did not wait for an answer, she knew it. "I've always come out of every situation, and it's not gonna be different tonight. Now could you please get us those clothes over there, we'd like to join you."

Willow pushed Buffy softly with her elbow. "What are you talking?" she asked lowly. "You don't really think about having a party with them, do you? I mean they wanna kill you, just in case you haven't noticed."

"Trust me, Willow. I'm sure that Giles won't believe me to wait until tomorrow. He's gonna come to the Bronze, see that we're not there and come to help us. Until he arrives we only have to stay alive." She made a 'do you see'-expression.

"Oh my God." Willow moaned softly. How could Buffy be so optimistic?

"Yes?" Richard had obviously heard Willow's last words and come over again with the stockings. "What do you wish?"

Buffy's voice sounded not only a little bit sarcastic. "A wooden stake to ram it into your heart."

"Oh, you're so original. I've never met a Slayer with a sense of humour." He handed the clothes over to the girls and waved them to follow him. "You can dress up behind that wall, there's a mirror where you can watch yourself."
