We decided to buy the VIP tickets to see Nell's show at the Trafalgar Theatre on the 23rd May as these gave the bonus of a pre show question and answer session with Nell as well as the opportunity to have an on stage photograph with the lady herself. There were some interesting questions from the audience, but I'm not going to do any spoilers here.

The Tuesday night had been chosen for the show as the Trafalgar theatre was dark that evening (i.e. the usual show that played there was on a night off). They used the current show (Jersey Boys) set with the addition of a rather nice gold throne chair for Nell to occupy for some of the evening.

The evening was divided into two sections, the first half based around Nell's early life and Rocky Horror and the second all about the history of Nell's Night Club at 246 West 14th Street in downtown Manhattan, New York.

A huge video screen above the stage played a selection of images from a powerpoint presentation, deftly controlled by Nell herself via a remote clicker. There were loads of images I hadn't seen before documenting the early days of the Rocky Horror Show and the Rocky Horror Picture Show as well as many family photos and images from the New York club days. Nell's narration of the show was a joy to behold, I found myself drawn in to many of her stories and learnt so many new things. I'm not going to add any spoilers here. I just hope there is an opportunity for the show to be filmed one day and released on DVD. I'm also hoping Nell writes an autobiography as she has so many wonderful tales that need sharing with the world.

After the show Nell signed merchandise and did more photos for the fans in the lobby, we also got to chat to some of the invited guests, among them Rayner Bourton (the original Rocky Horror from 1972), Patricia Quinn (Magenta), Sue Blane (costume designer), Yasmin Pettigrew (costume mistress for the Theater Upstairs production) along with celebrities Zandra Rhodes, Andrew Logan and Sir Ian McKellen amongst others.

If you get a chance to see the show at some stage don't hesitate to get a ticket. It was a rather wonderful night of stories and laughter from an amazing performer. Nell was gracious and very giving with her time for all of the fans.
